Who stands behind it
We fit every job with our own skilled team – not subcontractors. James, the owner, is a tradesman with more than twenty years on the tools, and he leads a small team of our own fitters: the people who measure up are the people who stand behind the work. We're family-run, based in Lower Wortley – no showroom, no call centre, no sales patter. And we're CERTASS certified (registration 19-1239), so your installation is registered and self-certified to Building Regulations – nothing for you to chase with the council.

What our 10-year guarantee is
Every job Wortley Windows & Doors fits carries our 10-year guarantee, given directly by us – the company that did the work – not by a third party. That's the whole of it: ten years, on every installation, from the firm whose own fitters measured up and fitted it.

Your CERTASS certificate is separate protection
The CERTASS certificate is separate protection from our 10-year guarantee. It matters when you come to sell the house, and it protects your home's resale value, and because the record sits with the local authority rather than with us, it stands in its own right whatever happens.
CERTASS is a government-authorised Competent Person Scheme. If you've heard of another scheme with a bigger name, CERTASS does the same job – a certificate from a government-authorised scheme carries the same legal standing whichever body issued it.
Anyone can check our CERTASS registration
CERTASS keeps a public register, anyone can search it, and our entry is on it. You shouldn't have to take a window company's word for a credential, and on this one you don't have to. It's worth doing before you sign with anybody, us included: if a firm names a scheme and you can't find them on that scheme's own register, you've got your answer. Here is what our entry shows.

Why your job needs signing off at all
Because replacing a whole window or door is building work, and building work has to be signed off. The Building Regulations set what a replacement has to reach on heat loss, on ventilation, and on where safe glazing has to go, and somebody has to confirm the new unit meets them. Being on a competent-person scheme means we sign our own work off rather than you booking a council inspector. CERTASS notifies the local authority and your certificate follows. Swapping just the glass, or just a door slab, in a frame you're keeping is a different thing: that isn't a controlled fitting, so there's no certificate to issue.
So the certificate exists because the law says the work has to be signed off. Our 10-year guarantee exists because we decided to give it. No regulation asks for it, no scheme issues it, and nothing obliged us to put our name on your job for ten years. One is paperwork you're entitled to. The other is a promise we chose to make.
Guarantee and manufacturer warranty are different things
An installer's guarantee and a manufacturer's warranty are two different layers of cover, and it's worth understanding both before you sign with any window company, not just us.
