The natural fit

uPVC casements suit most 1930s semis: clean lines, straightforward ventilation, and made to measure because original openings are rarely square.

The bay makes the frontage.

Victorian terraces were built around their bays. Replacing one properly keeps the proportions and the character of the whole front.

Made for Leeds

Leeds
back-to-back

Leeds still has around 19,500 pre-1919 back-to-backs in everyday use. Every window sits on one face of the house, so it has to earn its keep for light and air.

  • Glass area

Make the daylight you can actually get count.

  • Opening style

The ventilation has to work for the room it serves.

  • Proportion

Keep the elevation balanced with its neighbours.

House by house

Every opening is a different opening.

  1. Made to measure, never a stock size Original openings are rarely square
  2. Like-for-like rarely needs planning permission Conservation areas and listed buildings are the exception
  3. No percentage promised on your heating bills The saving depends on the house, the heating and how you use it
  4. Our 10-year guarantee Our own guarantee, direct from us

Building Regulations, handled

Replacing windows is notifiable work under Building Regulations, and Wortley Windows & Doors handles that side for you. We're CERTASS certified – Competent Person scheme, Domestic Glazing, registration 19‑1239 on the public register – so each installation is self-certified and the compliance certificate reaches the council automatically. Nothing for you to chase, and the paperwork is there when you sell the house or your insurer asks for it. If you're comparing window installers in Leeds, ask each one who registers the work with the council. We can show you.

"James was excellent – his knowledge, professionalism and skill set."

Will new windows cut your heating bills?

New windows do make a cold house warmer and cheaper to run than draughty ones – and we'll be straight with you about how. If your frames leak air or the sealed units have blown (that misting between the panes), heat is escaping and the radiators are working against it. Modern double glazing holds warmth far better than single glazing or failed units, cuts draughts and eases the condensation that gathers on cold glass. What we won't do is promise you a percentage, because the saving depends on your house, your heating and how you use it. What you'll notice first is comfort: rooms that hold their heat, and windows you can sit beside in January. And if your frames are sound, the honest answer might be a repair, not a replacement.

Window questions, answered straight

The questions Leeds homeowners ask us most, answered the way we'd answer them at your kitchen table.

How long does it take to fit new windows?

That depends on how many windows and the house itself, so we agree a clear plan with you before we start. What we can promise: the work is planned around your home staying secure, and the lads clean up as they go.

Do I need planning permission to replace windows in Leeds?

For most Leeds homes, no – like-for-like replacement windows don't normally need planning permission. Conservation areas and listed buildings are the exception, so check with Leeds City Council if that's you. Building Regulations apply to every window replacement, and our CERTASS registration means we handle that part for you.

What does the 10-year guarantee cover?

Every installation carries our 10-year guarantee – our own guarantee, direct from us, not a policy from a third party. If something's not right, tell us and we'll come and look at it. When you get your quote, ask James's team exactly what's covered and you'll get a straight answer. More on our guarantee page.

Do you fit sash or aluminium frames?

Honestly: no sash windows and no aluminium frames. We stick to what we're good at – uPVC casement windows, bay and bow windows and double glazing, made to measure and fitted by our own fitters, not subcontractors.

How much do new windows cost in Leeds?

It depends on the house, so we don't do list prices – every opening is different, and a figure plucked from a chart would be a guess. We come and measure, then give you an honest written quote: ask for yours here. And you can see the standard of finished jobs on our projects page.
